For most of my adult life I’ve been a planner; I love a good strategy and executing that strategy to drive outcomes.
And that’s worked in many areas.
This is a great time of year to reflect, and the funny thing is that while I’ve always had the strategy, the magical things in my life could never have been planned:
· Having two daughters – I love it, I wouldn’t trade it for anything, a plan probably would have included a girl and a boy.
· Our unconventional family – I have my kids three days a week and I love that because I can be all in with them, and use the four days to centre and grow spiritually. I have a wonderful relationship with my partner Julia, and a constructive relationship with my ex-wife Claire, and when you throw my kids in there in a way we’re all a family; we all celebrated Christmas together, and it doesn’t just work, it’s great.
· Medworld – I started a medical recruitment company with an interest in doctor wellbeing. Somehow it led to seeing the need to amend the modern-day Hippocratic Oath to include the health and wellbeing of doctors and to build a platform through Medworld to help doctors collaborate better to solve medicine’s challenges.
I’m not saying planning isn’t important, all three of these things took consideration and deliberate action to bring to life.
And, the magic all happens in conjunction with other people.
What I am saying that magic will surprise you, if you let it.
A while ago we were at a horse show. Zara and I walked the course, and I read the jump off and told Zara what it was.
Observing many people and many businesses over time, I’ve observed two factors within your control that lead to much great returns.
Every morning, I meditate with Ernie resting his head on my lap. It’s a special time.
We should eat more leafy greens, go plant based, eat fish not red meat, don’t eat dairy…
