Perhaps ‘hustling’ isn’t the goal?

The amount I see about people ‘hustling’ these days is out of control. It seems like it’s the absolute pinnacle to aim for (at least according to people who are selling you get internet marketing schemes!).

When I started MedRecruit, I worked 14 hours a day seven days a week; I did it because I had to, and because I wanted to.

It wasn’t about ‘hustling’, it was doing what I was called to do.

When we got pregnant with Zara, I decided I didn’t want to be a Dad who was never there, so I had nine months to build a management team.

It’s taken me a long time to really get good at this, but now almost everything in my businesses is done by other people.

My role now is purely to think strategically, and to contribute to the culture.

Being a ‘hustler’ would now be counterproductive.

Hard work is necessary to reach escape velocity.

But perhaps beyond that, it’s just a habit that people run because that’s what they’ve always done.

Maybe the goal isn’t to be ‘the hardest worker in the room’ forever.
