When not to train employees…

“Hire for attitude, train for skills” is a platitude that sends many business and practice owners down the wrong path.

It sounds lovely, but it’s fundamentally flawed.

I’ll tell you when not to train for skills…

When you’re a small organisation and you need the skill set.

For a senior member of the team and the skill is fundamental to their job.

In both of these instances you don’t have the time, or potentially the skill set, to train these people.

Know when to hire for skill. And if you’ve hired incorrectly, act decisively.

And don’t run your business on platitudes and bumper stickers.
