A life well lived…

Recently, we had the send-off for my uncle, Sir Tim Wallis.

After attending too many funerals that felt so wrong, I came away from Tim’s with a feeling of peace.

He lived well, and he died well.

Tim was a pioneer in aviation and deer farming. He created an entire industry. And at the same time, he improved the lives of those who knew him.

The thing that struck me was that almost 28 years ago, he crashed his Spitfire and was in a coma for two months. For the last 28 years, he has lived with significant brain and body damage. It limited him in some ways, but it never dulled his spirit, optimism, and positive outlook on life.

His wife, Prue Wallis, was instrumental in creating the conditions for Tim to thrive. And Tim played his role in making his last 28 years a blessing, not a curse.

He died surrounded by family, still positive, still optimistic.

We all live, and we all die.

We can do both well.

In fact, if we do the first well, we get the chance to do the second well.

We can leave it all on the court and live without regrets.
